Tobacco Free on Independence Day

River Region Health System has joined hospitals across Mississippi in a statewide effort to become Tobacco Free. Every River Region location will become Tobacco Free on Independence Day - July 4th.

Because our mission calls for us to improve the health of the individuals and communities we serve, we believe that we have a responsibility to take a leadership roll on this major health issue and to promote a healthier environment.

Evidence shows us that smoking or breathing second hand smoke

• damages nearly every organ in the body
• is linked to at least 10 different cancers
• accounts for some 30 percent of all cancer deaths

We believe our patients, visitors, physicians, employees, volunteers and broader community will see a significant health benefit as a result of this initiative. It is the right thing to do for the health of our community.
